WDMCS Grab-and-Go Meal Program Updates Sites, Adds Hot Meal Options
Starting Monday, April 13, West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Nutrition Services Department will provide grab-and-go meals at four sites and introduce new hot meal options for students.
The prevalence of the home meal delivery services, now used by more than 100 families, has eliminated the need for grab-and-go service at Crestview School of Inquiry and Hillside Elementary. Meals can still be picked up at Clive Learning Academy, Indian Hills and Stilwell junior high schools, and Valley High School from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Grab-and-go meal service will also continue for complex residents at Chapel Ridge West. Starting on April 13, meals can be picked up at a new time, 10:30-11 a.m.
WDMCS Nutrition Services will also start introducing hot meal options and freezer meals on April 15. New options will include chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, and pizza, as well as frozen vegetables. Storage and heating instructions will be provided along with allergen information.
WDMCS Nutrition Services is currently serving and delivering almost 7,000 meals to community children each week. WDMCS greatly appreciates the community support received for the meal program, which allows us to continue providing children in our community with the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow during these uncertain times.
