URBAN BICYCLE FOOD MINISTRY

DONATE or VOLUNTEER

We became involved with the Urban Bicycle Food Ministry at the beginning of the summer of 2022. Kim Chase had CEO and Chief Burrito Slinger Robby Collier on the Inside Iowa Show and was touched by the mission.

Every Thursday night year round no matter the weather. We are on bikes during the warm weather and cars and truck during the colder temperatures SERVING RADICAL HOSPITALITY ONE BURRITO AT A TIME since 2014.

We serve those in need in the Des Moines metro area. We serve food, hand out personal care items, and build relationships!

Every week it costs $1200 to do what we do. That buys the meat, beans, rice, tortillas,  sauce and aluminum foil for 700 burritos. Also bread, peanut butter, jelly and sandwich bags for 300 PBJ and bread, turkey, cheese, and sandwich bags for 300 turkey sandwiches. Plus 28 bundles of bananas each week. Sometimes we buy oranges or other fruit if we can’t get bananas.

Right now we are serving just over 300 fellow Iowans in need each Thursday. In the summer it is just over 400.  Each person gets at least 2 burritos, 1 each PBJ and 1 turkey sandwich, a fruit and a treat.  Robby buys the water himself.

We can always use monetary and donated items like blankets, batteries, hand warmers, personal care items, coats, hats, scarves, reader glasses, sweatshirts, boots, tarps, tents and anything you could think of that would be a necessity to living your day to day and trying to stay warm this time of year.
